Andrea Parkins & Ignaz Schick

Andrea Parkins (USA): electric accordion, objects, live-electronics

Ignaz Schick (D): turntables, motors, objects, vinyl, electronics

Andrea Parkins & Ignaz Schick initially met in NYC in early 2011 and for the first time collaborated and performed in late 2011 in Berlin. This transatlantic collaboration brings together two unique sound artists & voices from the adventurous experimental scenes of both cities. Both artists have developed a highly personal style of electroacoustic processing of object and instrument-made sounds that they create and manipulate in real time. With sounds generated from sources like accordion, voice, turntable, motors and manipulated objects, the duo creates complex and often highly energetic textures resulting in a new form of "musique concrete" that not only collages abstract sounds but also hints at manifold musical genres.

Andrea Parkins is a New York City composer, sound/installation artist and electroacoustic musician who engages with interactive electronics as a compositional/performative process, and explores strategies related to Fluxus’ ordered, yet ephemeral activities. As an integral participant of the New York sound art and experimental music scene, and also worldwide – she is especially known for uniquely gestural/textural approach to her electronically-processed accordion and customized live sound processing. Her laptop electronics and Fender-amped accordion create a sonic field of lush harmonics, noisy concretized disruption, and soaring electronic feedback. She also creates multi-channel audio installations, and sound for dance and film.

Ignaz Schick is a Berlin based sound artist, experimental turntablist and composer/performer who has been working in Berlin for many years within many different musical styles and contexts. He is one of the early/first generation protagonists of the so-called Echtzeitmusik scene and, besides his international performance schedule, he has also been working as a curator and organizer of such events and festivals as FAM (Festival fuer Aktuelle Musik), Erase & Reset, Time Shifts, The International Turntable Orchestra or Echtzeitmusiktage 2010. He has been also involved in creating sound installations and conceptual art works.
